This is tough music — tough to listen to … It is clearly an experiment. At first I thought it was an experiment gone awry … or were all the players drunk? Then I started to really listen — to the horns, organs, percussions — a kaleidoscope of distressed sounds. And distress is the theme: “Contrallegiance,” “Break Bad,” “Conflict,” all, well, about ***CONFLICT*** of some type or another. A horn is the star that recurs in “Special Dissonance Theory” and “Good Charles”: the horn is telling a story, wailing through the cacaphony, desperate to make a point, be heard. This album is ordered chaos… Five stars for originality. —Kim Sacco Sargent
